Harvey L. Bittle, 79, of Hume, MO, formerly of Bates City, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 5th at Concord Baptist Church, Bates City: Visitation from 12 – 1 p.m., Funeral service at 1 p.m.; burial following in Concord Cemetery.
Harvey was born August 2, 1930 in Ray County, MO, the son of Wilburton & Dolly Mae (Bridges) Bittle. He met his wife, Stella Jean Stanger in Jackson County, MO and they married on October 1, 1953. Harvey had been employed at Luffland Industries in Bates City until retirement. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from September 1951 to September 1953.
Harvey loved horses and volunteered time with many equestrian groups, including 4-H. He & Stella enjoyed traveling with his sister, Alice Inman & her husband. They visited many places including Mount Rushmore and Washington D.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella, eight of his siblings, his son Eugene, and his grandson Bobby.
He has two living sisters: Alice Inman of Independence, MO and Shirley Steele of Little Rock, AR.
His surviving children are Gerald Bittle & wife Chris of Poteau, OK, Gary Bittle & wife Mary of Hume, MO, Sharon Coberley of Prescott, KS, and Maria Bittle Mock of Kansas City, KS.
His surviving grandchildren are Christopher & Chad Bittle, Matthew & Joshua Bittle, Jesse & Tim Coberley, and Michelle Smith. He has 9 great-grandchildren.
