William Dean Hathhorn, 75, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Fairmount Christian Church, 641 S. Ash Ave., Independence, MO; burial at 2:30 p.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, MO. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 or the Fairmount Christian Church, 641 S. Ash Avenue, Independence, MO 64053.
Bill was born on August 14, 1934 in Nishnabotna, MO to Harold and Elizabeth (Rayhill) Hathhorn. He proudly served our country in the US Navy and worked on the bullet assembly line at the Lake City Ammunitions Plant. He married Connie Moore on December 16, 1960. Bill was a lifetime member of the VFW, an active member of the Fairmount Christian Church, an avid marble collector, and enjoyed spending his winters in Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Elizabeth Hathhorn; and two brothers: Bob Hathhorn and Jack Hathhorn.
His survivors include his wife: Connie Hathhorn of the home; two sons: William Todd Hathhorn & wife Jean of Omaha, NE and Martin Moore & wife Melissa of Canyon, TX; one daughter: Brenda Mitchell of Lee’s Summit, MO; one sister: Joan Monnig of Gladstone, MO; 7 grandchildren: Samantha, Erin, Blake, Jill, Scott, Jordan, and Erika; and 2 great grandchildren: Alexus and Cash.
