Ruby J. Grayum, 87, a longtime resident of Oak Grove, MO, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO. A private family burial will be held in the Sni Mills Cemetery, Oak Grove, MO. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00- 1:00 p.m. preceding the service.
Ruby was born July 15, 1923 in Flatwood, Missouri, the daughter of John and Bessie (Jarrett) Scott. She married Clyde M. Grayum, Sr. on May 26, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas. They were together for 64 years. In high school, she dreamed of being a fashion designer. After graduation, she worked at Montgomery Ward in the shipping department. During the war, she worked at Lake City making ammunition. She then went to work at Pratt-Whitney for 2 years working on wiring for aircraft engines. She also worked as a seamstress at a sewing factories in both Odessa and Blue Springs, Missouri. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oak Grove where she had taught Sunday school classes for many years. After retiring from the sewing factories, she turned her hobby of making crafts into a business. She sold her creations at craft fairs and shops. Ruby was a loving mother and grandmother. Her children and their children were the joy of her life. She was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress, avid reader, and a good cook. She and her husband raised one son and two daughters. The family would like to give special thanks to all of her caregivers, family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Clyde M. Grayum, Sr.; a brother: John Scott; a sister: Betty Jean; two brother-in-laws: Richard and Warren; and one niece: Shelley.
Her survivors include two daughters: Genie and Tracey; one son: Martin; two sisters: Judy and Sharon; one brother: Russell; a sister in law: Juanita; two son-in-laws: Bill and Kent; a daughter-in-law: Joyce; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, ten nieces, three nephews, and many loving friends and neighbors.
