L. Helen Shore, 98, of Oak Grove, MO, joined her Heavenly Father on December 25, 2010. She resided at Carmel Hills Healthcare in Independence, MO. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 28 at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove; burial in Sni Mills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Oak Grove First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 129, Oak Grove, MO 64075.
Helen was born September 23, 1912 in Jackson County, MO, the middle daughter of Robert Stone Brown & Hattie Bennett Brown. She married Robert M. Shore on December 5, 1936, and he preceded her in death on October 16, 2000. Helen was a schoolteacher, having taught in several rural schools before teaching in Oak Grove in the 1950’s and 1960’s. She held the honor of having the longest membership at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove to date.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters: Pearl Bynum, Frances Brown, Lorena Brown and Roberta Corlew; one brother: Kenneth Brown; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Grace Williamson..
Her survivors include a daughter: Louise Shore of Lee’s Summit, MO; two sons: Richard Shore & wife Sue of Lee’s Summit, MO and Ralph Shore & wife Shirley of Holden, MO; five grandchildren: Craig Shore & wife Colleen of Holden, MO, Lara Dierker & husband Sam of St. Louis, MO, Mark Shore & wife Amanda of Shawnee, KS, Chris Miller & husband Daryl of Platte City, MO, and Michelle Williamson & husband Clint of Lee’s Summit, MO; and ten great-grandchildren: Colin and Claire Shore of Holden, Joshua and Adam Miller of Platte City, Abby, Benjamin and Grant Williamson of Lee’s Summit, Matt and Jason Dierker of St. Louis, and Josie Shore of Shawnee, KS.
