Ruth Marie Zumwalt, 85, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Monday April, 4, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Buckner, 131 South Hudson, Buckner, MO 64016. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. preceding the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Odyssey Hospice, 800 East 101 Terrace, Suite 150, Kansas City, MO 64131.
Ruth was born March 2, 1926 in Corder, Missouri to Martin and Ester L. (Geisendorfer) Deterding. She married William K. Zumwalt on June 5, 1948. Ruth worked as a customer service supervisor for 22 years before retiring from the Sears & Roebuck Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 35 years: William K. Zumwalt; and her daughter: Winifred K. Schlagle.
Her survivors include one son-in-law: Don Schlagle of Independence, MO; two granddaughters: Kelli Schlagle of Independence, MO and Jamie Gilpin & husband Tyler of the home in Independence, MO; one grandson: Tim Schlagle of Independence, MO; and six great grandchildren: Christopher, Devan, Alexis, Logan, Gabriel, and Kaleb.
