Doris Virginia Geraldine Hamilton Simpson, 85, passed away December 6, 2011 at the home of her youngest daughter in Blue Springs. She was born April 29, 1926 in Independence, Missouri. She is survived by the joy of her life, her six children, William A. Simpson (Pamela), David L. Simpson, Debbie Castaneda, Mike Simpson (Linda), Mark Simpson (Rosa) and Becky Warnken. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren with two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents Marie & Arthur Hamilton, her sister, Earlene Tohill, a granddaughter Penny Simpson and by her former husband and the father of her children, William J. Simpson.
Doris was raised in Sugar Creek, Missouri. She attended Northeast High School, graduating in 1944. Immediately following high school graduation, she joined the Coast Guard and entered nursing school. While serving in Seattle, WA she married William Simpson and they returned to the Kansas City area to raise a family and make their home in Independence and subsequently in Blue Springs where her children attended school and she enjoyed being part of their school activities. She loved sewing, crocheting, creating arts and crafts and collecting photos of her family.
Services will be at Royer-Hays Funeral Home in Blue Springs. Visitation will be Friday December 9, 2011 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011. The family suggests contributions to Crossroads Hospice 9237 Ward Parkway, Suite 300, Kansas City, MO 64114.
