Billy J. Milligan


Billy Joe Milligan, 83, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery.  The family will greet guests from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Billy’s name.

Billy was born July 19, 1935, in Polo, Missouri, the son of Virgil and Anna (Baker) Milligan.  He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marines, serving in the Korean Conflict from November 1952 to November 1955.  Back home, Billy worked as a shipping clerk at Golden Star, Inc., for 40 years.  He enjoyed mowing his yard and keeping his cars cleaned and polished.  Billy loved going to the lake, but most of all, he loved his family.  He will be deeply missed.

Billy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna (Holloway) Milligan; three sons: Timmie Milligan (Tracey) of Lexington, MO, Thomas Milligan (Angie) of Wellington, MO, and Todd Milligan (Charlene) of Independence; five grandchildren: Matthew, Tanner, Lindsey, Anna, and Lucy Milligan; two sisters: Lois Biggs (Bill) of Rayville, MO, and Shirley Elam of Excelsior Springs, MO.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
