David M. Mercer

David Michael Mercer, 66, of Independence passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 9, 2022. David was born on January 20, 1956 in Geneva IL to Loron and Nancy Mercer. In 1973, the family moved to Kansas where he graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School. Growing up, David was into sports, played flag football, was a drummer in a band, loved music and enjoyed playing golf with his dad.  He worked for his family business at Acme Pattern and Model Works and later, with his father formed Adventure Playground, making safe playground equipment and sold to various Royals players and celebrities. Later in life, he went to school for HVAC and graduated from Vatterott. He worked for various companies and then started his own business. He married Susan Drenik in 1983 and Mary Ruiz in 2001, who both have stayed a big part of his life. His most recent enjoyments were his grandkids, family celebrations, watching sports, helping others and a very dedicated Chiefs fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Loron. He is survived by his mom, Nancy, two daughters, Andrea and Michelle, step-daughter, Frances Amos, four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, his brother, Tom, and two sisters, Susie Cooper and Debbie Mercer. David touched many lives because his biggest passion was helping others in need. He was always ready to listen, counsel and mentor others.

There will be a Celebration of Life on November 5th at 3 pm at the Maywood Baptist Church in Independence. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City.

Arrangements: Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO 816-690-4441
