Della Mae Osgood, 93, was born June 7, 1929, in Jackson, Michigan. She passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at John Knox Village. She was preceded in death by her parents Lilbourne and Merle Hodges of Punta Gorda, FL, her brother James Otis Hodges of South Africa, and sister Reta Merle Leonard of Colorado Springs, CO. She is survived by son Floyd Byron Osgood Jr. (Lynn) of Nashville, grandchildren Roberta Alexandra Osgood (Lexie) of Nashville and F B Osgood III (Bo) of Atlanta, nephew Randy Eugene Leonard (Jorinda) and family of Colorado Springs.
After graduating from Michigan State University, she taught school for over 50 years from Michigan to Cleveland to Pittsburg to Detroit to Memphis to Cincinnati to Charleston WVA to Toledo, spending 30 plus years with Lee’s Summit R7 Schools. She was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association and Alpha Delta Kappa. She enjoyed traveling to ADK conventions, playing bridge with friends, reading, and the company of her cat Buggs. Always giving to the community, Della continued to work with children by volunteering with Kaleidoscope, Hallmark Crown Center. Della volunteered for the Lees Summit police department, Lee’s Summit Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Truman Hospital East. She was known for baking cookies and delivering them to friends and wherever she was volunteering that day. She was a member of the Summit Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit and became a Stephens Minister where she served almost 7 years. Della was a beloved member and teacher of Open Door Sunday School class. She was a sweet, spirited woman of God loved by all. Della retired to John Knox Village in 2016 and enjoyed the many friends she had and met there. We thank all her friends for the years of care they gave her. Personal thanks go to Jana Weaver and her daughter Kirstin for being there with her and comforting her in her final years.
A celebration of life will be held in the chapel at John Knox Village on Murray Rd, on Saturday April 22, 2023, at 1 pm.
