Edgar Dan Gard, 82, of Independence, passed to his reward on November 10, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Edgar was born March 4, 1926 in Independence to Oscar and Beatrice Gard. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1944. He was a World War II Veteran serving with the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. After his discharge from the Army, he attended Graceland College and then CMSU where he completed his B.S. degree in Agriculture. He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Smart on October 29, 1948. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1529. He worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant from which he retired, He was a Patriarch at the Waldo Restoration Branch. He had served His Master in various positions of responsibility throughout his life including being Pastor of the East Independence and Beacon Heights RLDS Congregations. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Merle Gard and Earl Gard, and a sister, Peggy Smart.
Edgar is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Mar Gard of the home: three sons and daughter-in-laws, Greg and Jean Gard, Independence: Jeff and Pam Gard, Kansas City; Brad and Melody Gard, Independence; and a daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Paul Davis, Independence; grandchildren, Shauna Jacks, Candace Stone, Rachael Wittenberger, Angela Stevenson, Libby Gard, Molly Gard, Rachel Wood, and Christian Davis; eight great grandchildren, Afton Jacks, Jessica, Jake, and Jeremy Stone, Jonah and Adia Wittenberger, Jack and Caroline Stevenson; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Fred Bozarth, Las Vegas, Nevada; and brother and sister-in-law Regi and Jan Gard, Oak Grove, Missouri; sister-in-;aw Rosebud Gard, Independence; brother-in-law, Paul Smart of Kearney, Missouri.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the South Crysler Restoration Branch, 16101 Salisbury Road, Independence, Missouri 64050. Visitation will follow at 11:00 a.m.
