Edward L. Newlin was born October 2, 1935, in Kansas City, MO, and passed from this life on August 9, 2022, in Independence, MO, at the age of 86. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church-3108 US 40 Hwy, Blue Springs, MO. 64015. Inurnment at 12:30 p.m. in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Habitat for Humanity or Community Services League of Eastern Jackson County.
He was the oldest of three brothers and is preceded in death by his brother, Paul. Ed graduated from Center High School in 1953 and received a bachelor’s degree from Panhandle A&M (Oklahoma Panhandle State University). He married the love of his life, Helen, on May 26, 1957, and then served four years in the US Army and US Army Reserves. They settled in Oak Grove in 1971 where they built their house on 10 acres. Ed loved gardening, growing apple trees, and fishing in their pond. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline company until he retired in 1990. After retirement, Ed enjoyed volunteering and served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity and Community Services League of Eastern Jackson County. Ed was a long-time member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, Helen, his two children, Karl (Shannon) and Linda (Kendall), his two grandchildren, Perry and Amelia, his brother Roger (Diane), and a cousin, nieces, and nephews.

My wife Christine (Tyler) and I have many fond memories of you and Ted through our work (and your dedicated volunteerism) at St. Mary’s. I can still picture him with you at various St. Mary’s events, especially the gala and golf tournament. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Ed. I greatly enjoyed his Christmas stories and his willingness to share his gardening tips with me. He was very special to a lot of people and will be greatly missed. Heaven gained a good one and I’m sure he is looking out for each of you. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
