
Elizabeth Chappell of Napoleon, Missouri, known to her family and friends as “Betty”, passed away peacefully at her home on March 24, 2020 at the age of 88. A private family graveside service was held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Betty was born on May 12, 1931 in Rifle, Colorado, to Frederick and Bessie (Kubert) Striley. She married James “Jim” Noel Chappell on November 24, 1950, in Independence, MO. They lived in rural Napoleon, where they raised their two children, Jim & April. Betty will be remembered for her creative and artistic talents. She enjoyed baking and decorating wedding and special occasion cakes. Betty catered weddings and loved staying busy. She had a knack for gardening, painting, and anything crafty. Jim and Betty traveled often and loved the outdoors. She thrived being able to plan and host social gatherings at their home.
Survivors include her husband of the home; son Jim Chappell (Teresa) of Napoleon, MO; daughter April Stoenner (Mike) of Wellington, MO; brother Fred Striley (Kathryn) of Independence, MO; four grandchildren: Brian Chappell (Sherry) of Lexington, MO; Hollie Wallace (Kevin) of Napoleon, MO; Heather Kirchhoff (Jeremy) of Wellington, MO; and Jennifer Rusher (Charlie) of Brighton, MI; and six great-grandchildren: Haleigh & Brooklyn Chappell, Levi & Kaden Wallace, and Jocelyn & Brynlee Kirchhoff.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Amy Reiman, and brother Paul Striley.
