Evelyn Marie Holman, 78, of Aullville, Missouri, passed away peacefully, in her home, surrounded by family on January 27, 2024.
She was born in Kansas City on December 22, 1945 to George and Katherine (Thoman) Homfeld, and was raised on the family farm in Lexington. Evelyn attended Burns Country School before going to school in town at Lexington. She was a Lexington High School graduate. She later attended Kansas City Business College. She had several different types of jobs in her life. A few included driving a school bus, custom sewing, working retail at Walmart and Dollar General, selling crafts at craft shows, and some secretarial work. Her and her husband Gary eventually owned and operated Higginsville Skateland until retirement. Some of Evelyn’s fondest memories were on the family farm. She was partial to the pigs. She would often have baby pigs warming under the kitchen counter. One of the things she was most proud of is her lengthy time serving on the board of the campground she had property in, Fairfield Woods. She knew every owner there and loved her campground and lake friends immensely. She was always zipping around the campground on her golf cart. Her family often jokingly referred to her as sheriff of the campground, and Evelyn would laugh and agree. A perfect day for Evelyn would be out fishing her favorite stump near the 83 bridge on Truman Lake, or trolling for white bass by the island. Evelyn also enjoyed iced tea, sewing, crafting, hummingbirds, wind chimes, collecting salt and pepper shakers, tending her flower beds and playing cards. What she cherished most of all was spending time with family. She was always showing her love by making family or friends a quilt, dress, purse or teddy bear to name a few. She never missed an opportunity to teach her grandkids or kids how to play cards, dominos, or count back change “the right way”. Her fish cleaning skills were second to none. Her life lessons have left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Paul Edward, two nephews and a niece.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gary, of the home. Three daughters, Theresa Ricketson (Scott) and their children Trichelle Jennings (Cory), Liana Jenkins (James), Garet Ricketson (Alexandria Teeter), and Blake Ricketson. Alisha Johnson (adopted out at birth, reconnected in 2021) (Todd) and their children Samantha Johnson, Colton Johnson, and Taylor Johnson. Cindy Heathman (Tony) and their children Bradley Heathman and Laura Begnoche. Great grandchildren Weston Parsons, Brendon Parsons, Sawyer Jennings, Wade Begnoche, Keiran Jennings, Lyla Begnoche, Raylynn Jenkins and River Heathman. A brother, Ronald Homfeld. A special niece, Marcia Kolkmeyer, several nephews, and a host of great nieces and nephews.
The service will be held February 10, 2024 at 1:30pm Trinity United Church of Christ. Immediately following, a graveside service at Machpelah Cemetery in Lexington, Missouri. Card Party and potluck in the basement of the church thereafter, per Evelyn’s wishes.
