Garland D. Tripp


Garland D. Tripp, 98, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, Oak Grove, MO.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.  Memorial contributions may be made to Garland Tripp Legacy Fund at Truman Heartland Foundation, 4200 Little Blue Pkwy #340, Independence, MO  64057; Phone 816-836-8189.

Garland was born on December 29, 1922, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to Charles Lee and Audie Ella (Sharpton) Tripp.  He was the oldest of 5 brothers. All but one, Ray, have preceded him in death.  On September 9, 1941, Garland married Agnes Pauline Evans in Malden, MO. They celebrated 73 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on September 6, 2014.

Garland served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific building air strips on various islands captured by US Forces from the Japanese. He operated a road grader making fast work of landing strips for planes to land and refuel and arm for their support of ground troops on their assault toward Japan. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars for his service.

Garland was always involved in construction. He started building houses and then got involved in concrete construction starting his own business in the mid 50’s. Both sons, Montie and Gary worked with him in the business which added swimming pools to its expertise.  Gary took over the business when his dad retired and now grandson Kyle is maintaining the 3-generation business.

A devout Christian, Garland was very active in every church he attended in his travels. He served as a trustee, deacon, and song leader in his home church White Ridge Baptist in Lee’s Summit. Pauline and Garland moved to their beloved South Texas in retirement and used that as home base while traveling all over the country in their RV.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Montie and Marge Tripp, Oak Grove, and Gary and Nita Tripp, Raymore: five grandchildren and spouses: Jamie and Greg Franz, Kyle and Megan Tripp, Stacy and Jason Elam, Chad and Tara Tripp, and Courtney and Jerry Parks; and 13 great-grandchildren.

  3. So sorry for the loss of uncle Garland. He was such a great man. Always remember his humor and singing. Our condolences and prayers for family.
