Gary L. McNeill


July 9, 1958 – July 3, 2024

Gary Lee McNeill, age 65, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. He was born July 9th, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri to Thurl and Peggy McNeill. He graduated from Van Horn High School in 1976. Gary and Kris entered into marriage on June 9th, 1978. Happily married for 47 years.

Services will be held at The Delaware Event Center.

Gary was always a man who wanted to figure out how things worked which led him to become a mechanic at an early age. His career started at Waits Service Station. He worked at Kansas City Power & Light as a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic. He worked a few years for Copeland Electric Company and finished his career at First Transit as a Maintenance Supervisor.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Thurl C. McNeill and his sister Sherri Ann Dade.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kris McNeill of the home; his daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Butler and husband Matthew of Independence, Missouri and Kimberlee Ann McNeill of Blue Springs, Missouri; Six grandchildren, Landon, Carter, Charlee, Coralee, Ezra and Gwenlee, his mother Peggy McNeill and sister Teresa Curry.

Gary was deeply devoted to his family and easily made friends with his quick wit and ready smile. He will be missed beyond measure.

  1. I’ve known Gary since I was 8 years old.We grew up together had a lot of fun together.He was a great guy, a wonderful father and a wonderful grand father. He was a great dirt bike rider. He will truly be missed.

  2. Gary was such a good man. He was my friend. We were as different as two men could be but always had great conversations. I miss him.

  3. Sorry Rob, know Gary since I was 5, we met in kindergarten. We all had an amazing time growing up together. Could not have had a better friend than Gary was to me. I learned my love of music, motorcycles, cars ,boats and life with Gary. He was to me the most amazing person . I will forever miss my old friend dearly.
