Glenn D. Winter

Glenn Damon Winter of Blue Spring, MO passed away on Saturday, August 19th at the age of 76. He was born in Clarinda, Iowa to Dorothy Earle (Wright) and Rollo Wesley Winter on June 8, 1947. Damon graduated from Miami High School, Amoret, MO in 1965 and received his Associate’s Degree from Fort Scott College, Kansas. In his youth Damon was an active member of 4H, played the trumpet in the band, and sang in the men’s quartet, double quartet and choir. Out of college Damon worked a number of years for the Gas Service Company, Kansas City, before becoming owner and operator of G.D. Winter Trucking, LLC, running his business until his retirement in 2020. Damon cared deeply for his coworker’s well-being and went out of his way to ensure their care and that they felt a part of the family. He attended Odessa Community of Christ and cherished the friendships he made there.

Although his career was in trucking, Damon’s heart never left the farming life he grew up with, and kept close ties to the farming community. He could identify any tractor, enjoyed talking about different crops, loved a good bonfire at the farm, and always enjoyed a thick cut of ham or steak. Favorite memories with Damon include endless KC Chiefs games, unexpected times when he stepped out of his quiet demeanor to give a surprise scare, sprinting towards Space Mountain at Disney World to be the first ones on the ride for the day, and the silent shaking of his head when kids or grandkids were up to shenanigans. Damon’s grandchildren appreciated his quiet caring, support of their endless activities, and of course will always fondly recall his critique of their lawn mowing skills.

Damon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Winter, and just recently in May of 2023 by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Sharon Yvonne Winter. He has left a wonderful legacy in his three children, Richard Wilson (Carrie), Greg Wilson (Kathy) and Julie Torpey (Noel); grandchildren, Drew Wilson (Lauren), Eli Wilson (Kellie), Evan Wilson, Ian Wilson, Addison Wilson, Hannah Wilson, Hayden Torpey, Ishbel Wilson and Dawson Torpey; great-grandchildren, Aniston and Bennett; brother Ron Winter (Nancy), and brothers-in-law Pete Jones (Nancy) and Sheldon Jones (Shelley), and several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, September 8th, 2023, with visitation at 10:00 am and celebration of life at 11:00 am at Royer Funeral Home (100 Royer Lane Grain Valley, Missouri 64029). Graveside service will follow at Floral Hills East (25203 E US Highway 50, Lees Summit, MO 64086).
