Herbert Eldon Sands, 76, of Oak Grove Missouri, passed away on May 21, 2024 at St. Mary’s hospital surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11th at Faith Community Church, Oak Grove from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow. A private graveside service will be held on July 12th at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
Herb was born May 25, 1947 in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Kenneth Sands and Virginia Brockman (Step-father Melvin Brockman). He graduated from Fair Play High School in Fair Play, Missouri. Herb served in the United State Air Force from 1966-1974 when he was honorably discharged.
Herb was an Automotive Service Manager for most of his career. He was a big racing fan from Nascar to Micro-midgets, which he raced in the 80’s as number 55s. He always enjoyed fishing with family, especially his grandkids. Riding his Harley was a favorite pastime and he was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA). You could always find him tinkering in the garage working on something. He enjoyed golfing, spending time at the gym, and was especially dedicated to spending time watching his grandkids at their sporting events and activities. He was a member of the Faith Community Church.
Herb leaves behind his wife, Elisa Hernandez Sands of the home; four children: son Kenny Sands (Chris) of Oak Grove, daughter Kimberly Sands of Lee’s Summit, son Kelly Sands of Taipei, and daughter Kassie Sands of Sedalia; seven grandchildren: Tristen Sands (Chelsea), Mikiayla Arras, Dion Portillo, Kaleigh Sands, Garrison Golden, Dominic Asher, and Sarai Asher; and three siblings: brother Walt Sands (Mary), sister Gloria Baldwin, and sister Kenna Page. He was preceded in death by his parents.
