Jana S. Sloan

Jana Suzanne (Caywood) Sloan, 52 years old left this earth on November 20, 2024 during complications of heart surgery at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. Jana was born in Minot, North Dakota on August 14, 1972 to Gary & Melanie (McCray) Caywood.

She attended grade schools in Goodman, Missouri and then in Blue Springs, Missouri. She graduated from Blue Springs High School. She attended Crowder College and then Graceland College, attaining a Master’s Degree in Education.  Jana had a special talent for working with children from preschool to 5th graders.

Jana had a larger than life personality. She loved many people & was loved by many people. It has been said that she had more love than her heart could hold. She was a very outgoing and active person from an early age.  She was always singing and especially loved Christian & Country music. She was active in school choirs, programs, weddings, funerals and at church. Her singing talent was well loved and appreciated by many people.  She was very involved in youth activities at Plaza Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed it very much.

She is already greatly missed by family and friends.  She was like a family member to many people.  Although we miss her, we know she is reunited with her dear husband Jonathan (also known as JP or Jon Paul) in heaven.  She is also probably joyfully singing in the choir.

Jana tended to give over & above for people. She was known by many people as being helpful, protective and supportive.  In the many comments we have received, it was often mentioned about how funny she was.  Her strong faith in Jesus was often mentioned.  Her overwhelming love for others was well known.  There were many people who shared how much Jana was like a mom or aunt or sister to them.   Many of her 5th grade students said that when they needed extra love, attention and understanding that they got it from Mrs. Sloan. Her reach went far and wide. She was tremendously loving to her parents, grandparents, siblings and their spouses and her nieces and nephews.  Having said all that, she had an extraordinarily special love for her husband & her sons Christopher & Christian and her Savior, Jesus. She was a loving and well-loved person who tried to take care of everyone.  She was especially close to all of her family and will be greatly missed by her sons. That deep love and bond will always be strongly felt.

Jana was preceded in death by her dear husband, Jonathan Sloan; mother-in–law, Sherry Magel; grandparents Bill & Doloros McCray, Leon Caywood & Virginia (Caywood) Bowers, John & Betty Shelton & cousin, Cory Corkins.
