Joseph Robert (JR) Lampman, 79, of Blue Springs, MO, (formerly of Oak Grove, MO), passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 7th at Grace Baptist Church, Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
JR was born to Henry and Flossie (Hoch) Lampman on July 13, 1938 in Warrensburg, MO. He lived on several farms around Warrensburg while growing up with his three brothers and eight sisters. During his teenage years, JR worked at a lumberyard near his parents’ home in Leeton, MO. At age 19, JR left home to live with his sister and her family and work on their farm near Corder, MO.
A few months later, he met Ruth Elizabeth Manning and, following a three-month courtship, the couple married on May 25, 1958. They lived in Corder and then Higginsville, MO to begin their family. Together, Ruth and JR raised three children: Candy, Cassandra, and Robert.
As the family grew, JR received his CDL license and began driving for companies such as Tri Foods, Hoeffer Furniture and Fierking Elevator. In 1965, he went to work for Remington Arms (now known as Lake City Army Ammunition Plant) and moved his family to Oak Grove, MO in 1967. He held many positions at the plant including Tool Setter, Quality Control, Grounds Keeper and Truck Driver. JR also drove over-the-road for Homfeld Trucking. He retired from Lake City after 33 years to enjoy more time with Ruth and his family.
As a devoted Christian man, JR lead Sunday School classes and youth groups, and served the church as a choir member, bus driver, camp counselor, usher and became an ordained deacon in 1969. He enjoyed visiting his family members, having coffee with friends, antique cars, car shows, the Truck Stop, Donut Shop, garage sales with Ruth, spoiling his three granddaughters (Rebecca, Moriah, and BreAnna), and supporting the church in any way he could. JR had a love of neckties and ball caps – leading to a large collection of both.
JR Lampman never met a stranger. He made friends quickly with his happy demeanor, contagious laugh, and strong hugs. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by many, many friends and family. As you walk through your life, he would ask all of you to always smile and be happy with the day the Lord has given you. We will see JR again someday when he meets us at those pearly gates with his BIG smile and a hug.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth E. Lampman of Blue Springs, MO (formerly Oak Grove, MO); daughter Candy L. Hillson of Blue Springs, MO & husband Christopher L. Buck; son Robert R. Lampman of Blue Springs, MO (formerly Oak Grove, MO); granddaughters Rebecca A. Trowbridge of Springfield, MO, Moriah E. Hillson of Kansas City, MO & BreAnna F.
