Margaret “Peggy” A. Wanamaker


Margaret “Peggy” Ann Wanamaker, 72, of Sibley, MO, passed away on December 18, in Independence, MO, after a lengthy battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Peggy was born on April 13, 1953, in Suffern, New York, to Robert and Anna Wanamaker. Originally from Congers, New York, she later lived in Maryland, Yemen, Tunisia, and Maine before eventually settling in Missouri. Her life included many moves and travels, giving her the opportunity to experience a wide range of places, cultures, and people.

After the loss of her husband, Tom Syme, Peggy faced a difficult and uncertain season but found the strength to keep moving forward and build a life again. She always enjoyed good humor and valued a well-timed laugh, even during life’s more difficult moments.

Peggy is survived by her children, Carolyn Doerflinger (Bryan) and John Syme (Mary); her grandchildren, Ashtyn Burress (Lucas Burress), Caleb Doerflinger, Ben Doerflinger, Amelia Syme, and William Syme; her great-grandchildren, Eleanor Doerflinger and Tommy Burress; and her brothers, Robert Wanamaker (Tami Mallett) and Gary Wanamaker (Virginia). She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom Syme; and her grandson, Thomas Doerflinger.

Peggy’s Christian faith was a steady presence in her life, and she valued her relationship with the Lord. She will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, love of family, and the warmth she brought to those around her.

A visitation, followed by a funeral service, will be held on January 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home, 1823 N. Blue Mills Rd., Independence, MO
