Marvin Paul Bartels, 81, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23rd at Ascension Lutheran Church, 4900 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.

Marvin was born on January 3, 1937, in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of August Fredrick and Leona M. (Flagel) Bartels. He was a long-standing member of the NRA and involved with the Big Brothers / Big Sisters organization. He was a past president of the Congregation and Chairman of Social Ministry of Ascension Lutheran Church of Waterloo, IA, and a current member of Ascension Lutheran Church of Kansas City.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Jackie Bartels of the home; two sons: Jordan Bartels (Shannon) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jared Bartels (Flannery) of Blue Springs, MO; four grandchildren: Brian Jordan Bartels, Brayden Jared Bartels, August Newman Bartels, and Jude Matthew Bartels; one sister, Dorothy Perry (Don) of Waterloo, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elsie Mae Bartels.
