Norma J. Howlett


Norma Jean (Newkirk) Howlett, 92, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22nd at Enloe Cemetery in Russellville, MO.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening, August 21st at Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove.  The family requests that attendees wear masks and practice social distancing.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church – Oak Grove Campus or to the American Legion – Oak Grove Post.

Norma was born June 24, 1928, in California, MO, the daughter of James David and Beulah Mae (Allee) Newkirk.  She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Oak Grove for many years.  She was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and the VFW/American Legion.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wyman Howlett in 1999; three grandchildren: Craig Howlett, Michelle Howlett, and Joshua Howlett; four sisters: Margaret, Katie, Wilma, and Shirley; and one brother, Charles.

Her survivors include four children: Rev. David Howlett (Elaine) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Loyd Howlett of Blue Springs, MO, Kirk Howlett (Vicki) of Slater, MO, and Beth Chesney (Mike) of Oak Grove, MO; nine grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jody Blankenship of California, MO, and Sue Nutt of Sedalia, MO; brother, Jimmy Newkirk of Gravois Mills, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

    So sorry to hear of your loss, but thankful that she is now with her Lord in glory. I have fond memories of her laughter and friendliness.
