Otis William Largent, 84, of Independence, Missouri passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home; Independence, MO. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. MO Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors in Higginsville, MO.
Otis was born on March 22, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Sherwood and Mabel (Campbell) Largent. He was raised by the late Cecil and Mary (Largent) English, his Aunt and Uncle in Auxvasse, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Air Force from May 14, 1957 to February 14, 1962 as a Vehicle Maintenance Technician. On November 10, 1961, Otis and Patsy (Armstrong) Largent were united in marriage. Otis worked as a diesel mechanic with Time-DC Trucking, American Freight, Colonial Nursery and Jackson County. He bought 17 acres of land near Atherton Missouri in 1980 and built a nice farm. With the knowledge he received working at Colonial Nursery, he started O.P. Nursery at his farm. Otis was a skilled welder and loved to tinker with projects; consequently, he could fix and build all sorts of things. He was happiest riding on his Kubota tractors. Otis had a great sense of humor and always had a funny story or joke to tell. Otis was a hard worker and at the end of the day he would enjoy a cold one and think about what he had done that day and what he was going to do the following day.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: James Richard, Earl and Charles, and his son-in-law Stephen Thomason.
Otis is survived by his former wife Patsy Largent and their 3 children: Clint Largent of Independence, MO; Jody Thomason of Blue Springs, MO; Clay (Cindy) Largent of Independence MO, 3 grandchildren: Jennifer Carpenter, Jaden Thomason and Addison Thomason, 2 step grandchildren: Ian Schult and Sean Schult; 3 great grandchildren: Shawn Carpenter, Kaylee Carpenter and T.J. Carpenter; 4 sisters: Virginia Howdeshell of Vandalia, MO ; Mary Helen Eskew of Vandalia MO; Dorothy Largent of Mexico, MO; Barbara (Marion) Hawkinson of Farber, MO, 1 brother: Gene (Cathy) Largent of Vandalia MO, and many nieces and nephews.
