Patrick “Pat” Anthony Smithers of Independence, Missouri, passed away on May 13, 2024, peacefully in his sleep. Pat was 67 years old.
Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Pat exhibited a kind, gentle nature and was extremely loved by his family and friends. A true caregiver at heart, Pat lived a life rich in acts of service and was quick to help anyone at any time for any reason. Passionate about bowling from a very young age, Pat actively participated in multiple leagues, and he was happiest playing a game of cribbage or dominoes (bones) with his buddies. He was rarely seen without his sweet mixed-breed pup Mitzi by his side, and he loved his family and friends fiercely, affectionately calling the special women in his life, “baby girl.”
Pat is preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Smithers, and his sister-in-law, Marla Smithers. Pat is survived by his brother, Michael Smithers, and his sister, Georgia Bain (Buddy). Pat is also survived by his three children, Melissa Liston (Robert), Kimberly Peters (Dan), and Patrick T. Smithers; his grandchildren, Dylan Liston, Alexis Liston, Caleb Rose (Elaine), Hailey Smith, Gage Peters, and Madilyn Peters; his great-grandchildren, Violet Rose and Zayne Counihan; his niece Tina Peckham (Zachary); his nephews Paul Hale and Adam Hale; and his partner of 15 years, Arletta Christlieb.
A celebration of life will be held at Sterling Bowl in Independence on Thursday, May 23, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite nonprofit in Pat’s memory.
