Steven August Smith, 70 of Independence went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2021. Visitation will be 1-2pm Monday February 15, 2021 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home; Independence. Funeral will follow at 2pm. Burial at New Salem Cemetery.
Steven was born February 10, 1950 in Blue Springs, MO to Stewart & Emma “Betty” E. (Stilley) Smith where they lived on the family farm. He worked for the Blue Springs School district as a Custodian for many years when he retired. Steven was a big sports fan. He especially enjoyed baseball and was a big Royals and Chiefs fan. He was an avid reader and liked to go fishing. Steven was a selfless, kind man of God that loved to share his faith with others. He would do anything he could for his family, friends, and even strangers. Steven enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was always there for everything his children were doing in their lives. He also attended his grandchildren’s events when he was able or enjoyed hearing about what everyone was doing. Late in life he lived at the Blue Hills Rest Home and attended church at New Hope Baptist Church.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents: Stewart & Emma “Betty Smith.
Steven is survived by 1 daughter: Becky Brewster of Independence, MO; 2 sons: Greg Smith (Marie), Jeff Smith all of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren: Dustin, Charity, Adrianna, Aaron, Alex, Ava; 5 Brothers.
