Terry Dorman

Terry J. Dorman Jr. passed away September 24, 2022. He was in the presence of his wife Jackie and sister-in-law Karin at the time of his passing. Terry spent his final days going from family member to family member helping them get their grass in good shape for the upcoming season.

Terry was born on June 15, 1967, in Kansas City, Missouri to Terry Dorman Sr. and Shirley Dorman. Terry spent his youth wrestling and playing football. He then went on to study at the University of Central Missouri (previously CMSU) where he continued to wrestle his way through college. He was part of the Phi Sigma fraternal organization where he made lifelong friends. Terry graduated from CMSU with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. After college, Terry started his career with the Independence Police Department where he served as a police officer, police detective, and police sergeant throughout the span of 31 years. He was also an instructor at the MCC-Blue River Police Academy for 29 years where he helped many people make it into and through the academy. Terry served his city faithfully until his last days. His love for his career was shown every day of his life.

Terry is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Dorman, as well as his three children and their spouses: Nicholas and Kristen Dorman, Victoria Dorman, Rebecca Dorman and Jacob Spencer. He is also survived by two sisters, Ann Knowles and Sue Rash, brother and sister in laws, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Terry spent his time off enjoying the company of his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, including yearly fishing trips to Minnesota, where he was blessed to be just a few weeks before his passing. Terry also enjoyed playing poker, watching TV shows with his family, hunting, working on numerous projects, and surfing Facebook marketplace for “killer deals”. To say that Terry was a special person would be an understatement. He touched the lives of countless people wherever he went throughout his short 55 years.

  2. You had a special way of making everyones life joyful. You’re all the role-model anyone needs, and for giving me that I’m eternally gracious. Thank you, and I miss you.
