Wallace Wyatt Johnson, 86, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lakeview Woods State School in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Wallace was born January 18, 1932, in Oak Grove, Missouri, the son of Leonard and Anna Mildred (Wyatt) Johnson. He married Betty Shaw on April 6, 1952. Wallace entered the Air Force in 1952 and served in Korea from 1953-1954. He then worked for the Air Force in a civil service capacity as an aircraft mechanic. Wallace went back in the Active Reserve as a Tech-Sargent until his retirement in 1990, accumulating over 37 years of Federal service. He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. Wallace was also a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity, a past member of the Oak Grove School Board, and a past President of the Jackson County Association for Retarded Children. He and Betty helped start a sheltered workshop for handicapped children in Independence, MO.
Wallace was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2009; son, David in 1991; and sister Linda Smart in 2010.
His survivors include two sons: Michael Johnson (Lisa) of Grover, MO, and Kelly Johnson (Mary) of Bates City, MO; sister, Paula Poll of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren: Cacey Cozart (Michael) of CO, and Shawn Johnson (Daisy) of VA; three step-grandchildren: Austin Dust, Dominick Katz, and Jesse Katz; and three great-grandchildren: Zoe Johnson, Ocean Cozart, and Ollie Cozart.
