Ruth Marie Zumwalt, 85, of Independence, Missouri passed away Monday, April 4, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at the Frist Baptist Church of Buckner, 131 South Hudson, Buckner, MO 64016. The family will receive friend from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. preceding the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Odyssey Hospice, 800 East 101st Terrace, Suite 150, Kansas City, MO 64131.
Ruth was born March 2, 1926 in Corder, Missouri to Martin and Ester L. (Geisendorfer) Deterding. On June 5, 1948 Ruth was married to the love of her life, William K. Zumwalt. She worked for 22 years as a customer service supervisor before retiring from the Sears & Roebuck Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Martin and Ester Deterding; her beloved husband of 35 years: William K. Zumwalt; and her daughter: Winifred K. Schlagle.
Her survivors include on son-in-law: Don Schlagle of Independence, MO; two granddaughters: Kelli Schlagle of Independence, MO and Jamie Gilpin and husband Tyler of the home in Independence, MO; one grandson: Tim Schlagle of Independence, MO; and six great grandchildren: Christopher, Devan, Alexis, Logan, Gabriel, and Kaleb.
