James W. Coleman, 84, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Grove or to the Heart Foundation. Jim was born on September 23, 1938, in Marshall, Missouri, the son of Joseph W. and Emma (Ford) Coleman. He married Shirley Scherer on January 11, 1958, in Slater, MO. After high school, Jim worked for 10 years at Town & Country Shoe Factory in Slater. He then worked for General Motors, retiring after 42 years. Jim was a member and ordained deacon at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, where he was also a leader of the Awana children’s program. He enjoyed woodworking, whittling, and gardening, and loved his dogs.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jon Samuel Coleman, and his brother Joseph Samuel Coleman.
His survivors include his wife of 65 years, Shirley Coleman of the home; two sons: Jim Coleman Jr. (Rejeana) of Odessa, MO; and Jeff Coleman (Kari) of Lee’s Summit, MO; five grandchildren: Stina Frazier of Paola, KS, Bobby Porter (Jessica) of Odessa, MO, Christie Conway (Billy) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Ryan Russell (Lindsey) of Kansas City, MO, and Jakob Ray of Lee’s Summit, MO; great-grandchildren: Sophia and Miles Frazier of Paola, KS, Dylan and Wyatt Porter of Odessa, MO, and Pearsyn and Copeland Russell of Kansas City, MO; brother, Ed Coleman (Kathy) of Liberty, MO; and sister, Hazel Hiserote of Cosby, MO.
