Betty A. Stowell

Betty Arvilla (Triggs) Stowell, 83, of Blue Springs, Mo., died April 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on October 10, 1939, to Orville D. Triggs and Edith M. Fisher in Joplin, Mo. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1957.

She worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Mo., for 32 years and retired in 2000. She later worked in the Customer Service Department of the Jones Store Co. in Kansas City, retiring in 2007.

Betty was an avid reader, often staying up well past midnight to read the latest titles checked out from the library. She was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan, and she stayed current with new movies and television series. She created a welcoming place for many to call home, taking in friends and family when they needed it most. Her friendly voice was always just a phone call away for family, friends, and neighbors. Many knew her best as “Mema.”

Betty is survived by her children, Terry and Glenda Stowell and Shari Kretzschmer. The greatest loves of her life were her four grandchildren Kerri Stowell, Kristine Stowell, Matthew and Ashley Kretzschmer, and Kendall Stowell, as well as two great-grandchildren, William and Brianna. Other family, including her nieces, nephews, and all who knew her, will miss her laugh.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother David Triggs, and a daughter, Tammy Stowell.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. at the Valley Memorial Gardens, Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mid-Continent Public Library at 9253 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138 or https://mymcpl.thankyou4caring.org/donate

  1. Such a beautiful soul. She will be so missed. I’m sure her and Tammy are cutting up in heaven already. Stevie Ray is probably driving her bonkers again. See ya when I get there mema.

  2. So were so sorry to hear of your loss. We had many fun times with your mom. We graduated from HS the same year, although we graduated from BS and she from Oak Grove. She was always fun and full of energy. She was kind & generous to everyone. We had a prior commitment or would have been there today.
