David W. Johnson

David William Johnson, age 84, a Blue Springs, MO resident, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 26th, 2023. David was born August 7th, 1938, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Henry “Hank” Gustaf Johnson and Lena (Vick) Johnson.

In 1958, David met the love of his life, Darlene Tangren, while working for Pillsbury in Minneapolis, MN. All the women made quite a big deal of his strikingly good looks, but he only had eyes for Darlene. They were married on July 18th, 1959. They had three children, Colleen (Mark) Broussard, Houston, TX; Jeff Johnson, Trimble, MO; and Greg (Tammy) Johnson of Blue Springs, MO. And blessed with 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. As a young man out of high school, David enlisted in the National Guard. He worked for Pillsbury, Phillips 66 before his career with the USDA, retiring in 2003. David spent time teaching his children the joys of the outdoors by camping, fishing, and hunting. In his later years, he was an avid model train enthusiast and loved his Western movies, especially John Wayne. His sense of humor was like no other. There wouldn’t be a dry eye in the house when he started telling his stories, and you never had a clue if he was serious or pulling your leg until the very end. He had many great traits, but the one that stood out was that he always saw the best in everyone, and if he had nothing nice to say, he wouldn’t say anything at all. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whom all will greatly miss.

David was preceded in death by his mother Lena, father Hank, stepmother Irene, brother Henry, and grandson Bryan.
