Donna J. Rice, 83, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 in Blue Springs, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO and funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home, P.O. Box 6, Lamont, MO 65337.
Donna was born March 9, 1940 in Independence, MO, to Walker and Ruth Owings. She grew up in Oak Grove and graduated with the Oak Grove class of 1958. She married Bill V. Borland and they had two boys. They lived in Oak Grove. Donna married Alvia L. Rice (Al) on December 28, 1974. They lived in Oak Grove and the surrounding area, as well as Eldorado Springs, MO.
Donna worked at the Oak Grove Diner as a teenager. As a young adult she was a secretary, working in insurance. Donna loved her family and her home. She was known for her kindness and always helping others. She seemed to intuitively know what was needed and was gracious and generous to volunteer or lend an attentive ear. After Al passed in 2006, Donna volunteered with a group of friends at Show-Me-Christian Youth Home. She loved the Lord and was baptized in the Oak Grove Christian Church.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 31 years, Al Rice; a stepson, Kennth D. Rice; and a grandson, Jeremiah L. Pulley.
Her survivors include two boys: Loren V. Borland (Carla) of Grain Valley, MO and Lynn W. Borland (Rita) of Oak Grove, MO; three step-children: Gary L. Rice (Karen) of Garrett, IN, Janet E. Samborski of Independence, MO, and Janey Limke (Keith) of Yukon, OK; a brother: Wayne K. Owings (Karen) of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and many, many friends and extended family.
