John Charles Davis
1950 – 2023
John “Johnnie” Charles Davis, 73, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at his home with family at his side. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Museum of the Kansas National Guard at Topeka Regional Airport, 125 S.E. Airport Dr, Topeka, Kansas 66619.
John was born on May 5th, 1950, the son of Clifford and Esther Leonilla Davis (Peavler) in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He attended Ryal Public Schools and graduated from Graham High School in 1968. John had five siblings, Alice, Ron, Leona, Cindy, and Pamela. They loved to go into the woods, cut down trees, and build treehouses. He was affectionately called Johnnie by his parents and siblings. John worked as an x-ray tech on the oil pipelines in South Texas for two years with his brother Ron. In 1972, He moved with the rest of his family to Topeka, Kansas, where he lived most of his adult life. For 32 years, John worked as a drywall finisher, some of those years for Bob Florence and some for Interior Contractors. He retired in 2006. John had two children, Heather and Shane. He always ensured they were cared for and had what they needed. John never desired to own possessions because his purpose in life was to help his family. John was super handy around the house and could fix nearly anything. He would assist any professional that came to fix something. He collected baseball cards and loved to work on and talk about cars with his son. John enjoyed watching funny shows and movies with his daughter. He had a great sense of humor and could come up with hilarious one-liners when you were least expecting. He enjoyed watching his granddogs and laughing at their funny antics and especially loved Tanner, the little papillon. John enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, going to the casino, and watching sports. He was a Chiefs and Royals fan and secretly rooted for the Astros.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Esther Davis; sister-in-law, Cheryl Davis; and his beloved granddog, Tanner.
He is survived by a daughter, Heather (Tim) Roe; son, Shane Davis; along with his sisters, Alice (Wayne) Hittle, Leona Davis, Cynthia Davis, Pamela (Dana) Fisher; brother Ron Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
