Michael Harold Barber
July 9, 1955 – August 26, 2023
We gather to remember and honor the life of Michael Harold Barber, a husband, father and friend to many. Michael, better known as Mike, passed peacefully on August 26, 2023. He was born to Maxine and Harold Barber on July 9, 1955, in Raytown, MO. Mike touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile, kind heart and great storytelling abilities will forever remain etched in our memories.
Mike had a special fondness for breakfast gatherings with his buddies, where his stories and personality came to life. These relationships carried into his evenings with poker and pool with the boys. Beyond his love for these friendships, Mike also supported the Rotary Youth Camp for over 25 years.
Mike’s greatest joy came from his family. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Becky and his children: Adrienne, Kelly (Jackie), and Thad (Alexis). His quiet pride in their accomplishments knew no bounds. Mike spent many hours cheering Adrienne on during her roller skating and dance competitions. For Thad, Mike was his biggest fan as he played first base. And Kelly, with his trailer obsession and passion, had a father who encouraged these special interests.
The light of Mike’s life shone brightly in his role as a grandfather to Penny and Charlie. Their laughter never failed to bring a smile to his face. He cherished the moments spent with them and anticipated the moments to come.
In addition to his role as a father, grandpa and friend, Mike worked over 50 years at Brogdon Machine. Through his contributions, he not only built tools but also forged lasting connections with his colleagues that extended beyond the workplace.
Mike’s faith was another cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Raytown where he met his wife, Becky.
A celebration of life will take place from 6:00- 8:00 pm on September 8th at Curé of Ars Catholic Church: Fr. Burak Room. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Rotary Youth Camp, located in Lee’s Summit, in Mike’s honor. Please visit www.rotaryyouthcamp.org or mail checks to Rotary Youth Camp, 22310 NE Colbern Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
