Roderick “Rod” A. Allen Jr.


Roderick “Rod” Albert Allen Jr., 72, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 23rd at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Rod was born September 9, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Roderick Albert Sr. and Alice Victoria (Tittsworth) Allen. He worked for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority as a Maintenance Supervisor from 1971 until his retirement in 2003. Rod was an avid softball player who supported the Royals and Chiefs his whole life, but took the most pride in watching the sports his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren played. He also loved spending time outdoors fishing and barbecuing. He enjoyed visiting Branson and playing Yahtzee with family and friends.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond; and three sisters: Patricia, Alberta, and Linda.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nina Allen of the home; two sons: Steven Allen (Shelly) of Independence, and Tim Allen (Loretta) of Odessa, MO; two daughters: Kristi Wilane, and Stacy DeVera (Stephen), both of Independence; one sister, Dorothy Keeran (Patrick) of Raytown, MO; nine grandchildren: Cambrae, Jeremy, Cody, Samantha, Dylan, Sarah, Timberley, Corey, and Matthew; four great-grandsons: Hayden, Brady, Cooper, and Jace; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
