Richard Gardner


Richard “Dick” Gardner, 84, of Raytown, Missouri passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Dick at Raintree Clubhouse on April 21st from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The clubhouse is located at 825 SW Raintree Drive in Lee’s Summit. All are welcome to drop by and share memories of Dick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Missouri Department of Conservation.

Dick Gardner was born on June 15, 1939 at home in New Hampton, Missouri to Kathleen (Scott) Gardner and Everett Gardner. His dad was the town barber in New Hampton, and his mom worked in the post office where his grandfather served as Postmaster.  He talked often of his youth and the time he spent with friends and family in and around New Hampton. After graduating from Southwest High School in Bethany, Missouri, Dick served in the United States Army and then in the Army Reserves. He is a graduate of UMKC Pharmacy school where he served in officer positions of the Kappa Psi pharmacy fraternity. His pharmacy career spanned 50 years, and he retired in June 2007 after working primarily at MacKay Drugs in Independence and then HyVee Pharmacy in Raytown. 

Dick loved music and played many instruments throughout his life including ukulele, trombone, drums, and harmonica. He found joy in nature, especially sailing on Lake Jacomo, gardening, and observing local wildlife. He was a life-long fan of the Chiefs, the Royals, and University of Missouri sports teams and followed many different types of sports. Dick’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and celebrated their many accomplishments with pride.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen and Everett.

Dick is survived by his children Tim (Cristan) Gardner, Aimee (Michael) Buck, Erin (Keith) Dorrian, his nine grandchildren, Brittany (Kevin) Makin, Jonathan, Reagan, Grant, Stephen, Jack, Catherine, Carter, Aubrey, and three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Parker, and Quinn. He will be greatly missed by many.
