In loving memory of Judy Deanna Miller (Michaelson) Monahan.
Judy Deanna Miller (Michaelson) Monahan of Kansas City, MO. Previously of Morrill, MN. passed away peacefully from natural causes on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 84. Judy’s journey came to a close surrounded by her children while in the North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City Hospital.
Judy was born in St. Cloud, MN on April 14, 1940 to Constance Scott and Archie Miller. She was raised by her grandparents Amy and Curtiss Carver. She attended St. Cloud Tech High School.
Judy was a devoted mom to her eight children (sometimes called the “original eight”) and a mother to many foster children. She had a passion for caring for children. She was a caring grandmother to 26 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She loved to play games with all the children, especially teaching the younger children how to play. Judy continued her enjoyment of playing games with family and friends throughout her life.
Her children will best remember the “Michaelson Itchy Feet” instilled in them by their mother. Judy was known to wake her children in the middle of the night and say she had “Itchy Feet” and it was time to grab their shoes and off they would go. Judy’s adventurous soul took them on many trips across the states, seeing sights galore. Each new adventure brought such joy to her children.
Judy had a gift for music. She played the organ and the guitar. Judy also enjoyed singing in the church choir. Her children will cherish all the music and singing she sang with them. The Saturday night gatherings of singing songs from the Sound of Music and Sunday mornings singing in the kitchen to be accompanied by her children playing the pots and pans with her homemade wooden spoons.
Judy was well known for raising her own food for her family and her amazing cooking. She loved to bake bread and make home-made pies. Judy’s skill to turn a few pieces of wood into a beautiful cabinet or chest was no small feat either. Whether it was woodworking or mechanical Judy could almost always build or fix anything that was needed.
Mostly Judy was a child of God and raised her children with Christian values. She was a devoted Sister of the LDS Mormon Church. In her later years she volunteered at the Temple in Kansas City, MO. Often, she had missionaries in her home for meals. It was well known that Sister Monahan had the best pies.
Judy will be deeply missed by her loving family, including her children, grandchildren, great grand children and great great grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
