Melvin D. Robinett

Born on May 11, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri to Archie and Fannie Robinett, Mel Robinett was a man of many talents and virtues. His parents, Fannie Mae Branch-Brocious (5/15/1923-4/29/2004) and Archie Ferril Robinett (3/4/1920-1/3/1969), witnessed his graduation from Blue Springs High School in 1964. Post-graduation, he immediately enlisted in the Army, dedicating four years to serving in Thailand and Vietnam with the Army Security Agency.

Mel commenced his studies at CMSU in 1968 and, in March of 1969, met Dee Angela Pritchard, who would become his lifelong partner. They married in December of 1969 and established their home in Oak Grove, where they built a remarkable life together. Mel’s professional journey included a stint at KCPL, a year teaching shop at Odessa High School, and eventually founding Robinett Construction. A skilled craftsman, he specialized in stone and concrete flatwork, concluding his career as a union carpenter.

Mel was an amazing husband. As a father to Trent and Melodee, he was unmatched. He was there to see them through all their life’s milestone events. When they were children, he never missed a game or event where he could cheer them on. He continued this tradition with his grandchildren. He was always their biggest and loudest fan.

A deeply spiritual individual, Mel devoted many years to Native American ministries and was an active member of first the RLDS Church and then the First Baptist Church in Oak Grove. His commitment to his faith was evident as he led youth groups, taught Sunday school classes, and participated in mission trips, truly embodying his beliefs.

Mel’s legacy is deeply impactful. He wrote touching letters to his grandchildren and served others with steadfast dedication. He extended love to the unloved and generosity to the needy. To him, a stranger was simply a friend yet to be made. His home provided refuge for the solitary. He devoted himself to fulfilling the needs of others. His writings displayed his remarkable talent, and his artistry was meant to be shared. His hearty laughter and well-timed jokes lifted spirits in any circumstance. His teachings in Sunday School left a lasting impression, and his skill as a stone mason was unmatched.

Mel passed away peacefully in his chair on May 23rd, 2024, leaving behind a legacy as a remarkable husband, father, and friend. He will be missed by all. He is survived

by numerous family members including Dee Robinett, his loving spouse of 54 years. His sister Marilyn Levy. His son and wife, Trent and Kimberly Robinett. His daughter, Melodee Robinett. His grandchildren Hope, Hanna, Savanna, Tristan and Katie.
