Jerry L. Starr


Jerry Leonard Starr, 68, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Royers’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, Missouri. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial in New Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital – stjude.org

Jerry was born June 5, 1956 in Independence, Missouri to Charles Leonard and Betty Lou (Todd) Starr. He met his soulmate Julie Ryan at millstone lodge on July 4, 1987 and they were happily married on April 1, 2000. For 58 years Jerry enjoyed boating and fishing and spending time with his family and friends at the Lake of the Ozarks. Jerry was also an avid KC Chiefs fan, grateful for the opportunity to witness 3 Superbowl championships during his prolonged illness. He was a brickmason, member of the Brick Layers Union, and happily retired in 2008.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Brenda Starr-Landis.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Julie; and 2 daughters: Stacey Starr and Christina Garver; stepson, Justin Starr (Ashley); 4 grandchildren: Trae Starr, Antonio Quiroz, Ariana Irizarry and Nico Davidson; sister, Betty Starr-Ford (Bob); and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. Jerry thanks the Ryan clan for welcoming him into the family and especially for all the support given over these past 4.5 years
