Loren Marion Porter Jr
January 21, 1940 – September 14, 2023
Loren Porter, 83, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed after a short battle with aggressive renal cancer. He dearly loved his family and the most important thing to him was the time he was able to spend with them before his passing. The family held a private memorial.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Bartlett Porter (married 66 years); his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Pam Porter (& Chris Miller), Susan Porter, David Porter (& Gail), Michael Porter, Justin Porter (& Mary), Melissa McNeece Merkys(& Steve), Ryan Porter (& Rhiannon); and Jonathan, Grey, Ace, Stevie, Keyleigh, Ava, and Wesley Porter; and his brother David Paul Porter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren Sr & Ethel Porter, and his brother Charles Thomas “Tom” Porter.
Loren graduated in 1958 from East High School, KCMO, where he played football and played his trumpet in the band. He lived most of his life in Independence, Missouri.
As a devoted Christian, he studied his Bible and looked forward to heaven.
Loren was a member of the Carpenter’s Union for 40 years and had a successful career as a superintendent for commercial construction companies including Universal and Walton. Many of his stories started with “that reminds me of a big job I was on”.
He never knew a stranger and made many friends throughout his life. He loved music, whistling, singing, and occasionally yodeling. He was always joking and laughing with people, and was very interested in asking questions about their lives. He loved feeding the birds, and was proud of the gardens he tended over the years. He stayed strong and active his entire life, and continued doing home improvements and additions, building sheds, climbing ladders, and even terracing his yards into his 80s.
Loren is greatly missed by all his family and friends.
