Nelda Mae Bassett, 90, of Collins, MS, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 13th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, MO; burial in New Salem Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Nelda was born on November 14, 1927 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She married Wilbur Bassett on April 22, 1948.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters: Sandra Jackson and Dianna Bassett; a grandson, Mike Bassett; her parents: Benjamin and Myrtle Emery; two sisters: Opal Pickering and Katherine Mayes; and two brothers: Beryl and Harley Emery.
Survivors include three sons: Dale Bassett & wife Ginny of Richmond, MO, Joe Bassett & wife Norie of Jacksonville, FL, and Bob Bassett & wife Angelina of Cameron, MO; two daughters: Donna Thurman of Altamont, MO, and April Bridges & husband Bart of Sibley, MO; son-in-law, Steve Thurman of Collins, MS; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.
