Eileen M. Graham

Eileen M. Graham 96 of Raytown peacefully passed away on January 19, 2025, with family by her side. Born on September 15, 1928, to Dr. William F. and Ruth A. McCarthy, Eileen was a beautiful “little bird” with strength and resilience that lived up to the meaning of her Irish Gaelic name.

After spending her early years in Kansas City, Dr. McCarthy moved Eileen and her siblings Patricia (D 2021), Bill (D 2024), and Mick [D 1991] to Lake Tapawingo, a place where Eileen found her love of the water.

Upon graduating high school, Eileen attended college at the University of Missouri – Kansas City for a brief time, but her true passion was art (much to her father’s chagrin).  She soon flew the nest, got married and had three children.

Married life suited Eileen about as much as college, so she spread her wings and embraced a new path as a single mom, moved her family to Raytown and took a job at Lake City Ammunition Plant to provide a good life for her children.  As they grew up and too flew the nest, she became a devoted in-home childcare provider for over 15 years.

In 1969 Eileen married Nigel Graham, a union electrician who loved the fresh air, sun, and lake life as much as she did. The two shared a passion for water skiing and the Kansas City Chiefs, spending many happy years together until Nigel’s passing in 2010.

Eileen had many interests and hobbies that brought her great joy throughout her life.  She was a talented artist and loved to paint, although the mediums changed over the years her passion for art did not.  Her gardens were also a source of fulfillment, she loved learning about every flower she planted.  Whether it was painting, gardening, skiing, bowling or ballroom dancing, she worked hard to be the best that she could be and loved every minute.

Eileen was a loving and generous mom, with a sweet disposition and beautiful smile to welcome her friends. Her spirit and creativity live on in her children, Rick Wilson, Michele (Harry) Drake, and Cheryl (Bill) Galvin; grandchildren Chris (Katie) Bergen, Rachael (David) Funk, Bill Galvin III and great grandson Kai Funk. She will be missed by her children, stepchildren Frankie (Terry) Reim, Rick (Brenda) Graham and their families along with many nieces and nephews and Sam (her cat).

“She held our hands for such a short time but will hold our hearts forever.”  At Eileen’s request, there will be no services. Instead, please raise a glass (preferably a margarita) and toast to a life well lived as this beautiful little bird soars to the heavens.
