
Charles Robert Bellemere, 76, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, Missouri, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Charles was born on June 25, 1949, at St. Mary’s Hospital across from the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, to his parents, Charles Frances and Anna Mae Bellemere. He attended Hartman Elementary School at 89th and Oak, J.C. Nichols Elementary School at 69th and Oak, Bingham Junior High School in the Waldo area, and Southwest High School, graduating in 1968.
Charles was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 76 at J.C. Nichols. As an adult, he continued his dedication to Scouting, serving as a Unit Commissioner for Troop 310 in Grain Valley, Missouri, and as an Assistant District Commissioner for the Blue Elk District, supporting Scout troops in the Grain Valley and Blue Springs areas. He was also a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
Charles proudly served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972. He completed basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, advanced training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971 as a Radio Telephone Operator with MACV (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam), Advisory Team 87, 18th Division, 52nd Regiment. His final assignment prior to discharge was with the United States Army Combat Surveillance Electronic Warfare School (USACSEWS) at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he served as a Sergeant (E-5).
Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Bellemere dedicated more than 35 years of service to the Federal Government.
He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2171 of Grain Valley and Post 30 of Blue Springs. Throughout his years with the VFW, he held numerous offices, including Adjutant, Quartermaster (including All-State Quartermaster from Post 2171), Junior Vice Commander, and Senior Vice Commander. At the district level, he served as District Chaplain, District Senior Vice Commander, and District Commander of the 5th District. His honors included All-State District Commander and All-American District Commander for the 1991–1992 term.
Mr. Bellemere is survived by his son, Charles Andrew Bellemere (Courtney) of Oak Grove; his daughter, Amanda Lynn Johnson (Chris) of Blue Springs; six grandchildren, Callie and J.J. of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Lylei, Harper, Corbin, and Grayson of Grain Valley Missouri; nieces and nephews; two sisters, Ann Bernadine Aldrich of Kansas City, Missouri, and Katharine Louise Fisher of Atlanta, Georgia; and close friends, Jim & Karen Maynes.
