Douglas Gerald Zumwalt, 64, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026. Services will be held at a later date.
Doug was born on December 25, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of John and Patricia (Tucker) Zumwalt. He was married to Edith Batz in 2009, beginning a chapter of love, partnership, and a shared life that meant a great deal to him. Doug was a hard worker for many years at Dirt World, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic, before retiring. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his friends and loved ones. Doug’s favorite moments were often the simplest ones, sitting around a bonfire, sharing stories, laughter, and quiet companionship. Those gatherings reflected who he was at heart: steady, warm, and happiest when surrounded by the people he cared about.
Doug was preceded in death by his father John Zumwalt, and two brothers, Steven Zumwalt and John Kenneth Zumwalt.
His survivors include his mother, Patricia Zumwalt; brothers, David Zumwalt (Fe) and Scott Zumwalt; his loving wife, Edith Zumwalt; his children: Matt & Shawna Hillen, Tori & Dustin Reynolds, Tessa Zumwalt, Stefan & Jamie Sullivan, Carmen & Richie Freeman, and Virginia & Michael Sitz; and his grandchildren: Nick Miller, Khrystie Wulff, Kaleigh Hillen, Kaidence Hillen, Trevor Hillen, Pacey Hillen, Christian Hillen, Dawson Hillen, Everett Hillen, Mikaela Hillen, Oliver Eaton, Violet Eaton, Carsyn Reynolds, Ashton Reynolds, Aubrey Carl, Payton Franks, Anneliese Sullivan, Eli Sullivan, Gabriel Freeman, and Samuel Freeman.
