Michael E. Austain

Michael Eugene Austain (Mike), 55, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on April 28, 2026, at St. Joseph Medical Center. A Celebration of Life in honor of Mike will be held on June 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Plumbers Union Local 8, 5950 Manchester Trfy, KCMO, MO 64130.

Mike was born on October 3, 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Earl and Hazel Austain.

Mike attended Platte City High School and Platte City Vo-Tech, graduating in 1989. Throughout his life, he held many occupations, including welding, baking, and working in a car service department, before settling into a lifelong career as a truck driver. Mike was able to drive anything from a box truck to an eighteen-wheeler and logged more miles than most could imagine over the years.

One of his proudest accomplishments was purchasing his first Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which quickly became more than just a hobby—it became a passion. Riding brought Mike and Stephanie countless memories together, traveling to places like Iowa, Wisconsin, and Bagnell Dam, as well as participating in Bikers for Babies. He was a proud member of Freedom of Road Riders (FORR), Local Chapter 5, and also a member of the American Legion Club.

Mike met Stephanie on October 31, 1989, in North Kansas City, Missouri. Their first date was at McDonald’s, followed by a second date at Chubby’s Restaurant—simple beginnings that grew into a lifetime together. That love blossomed into a marriage on May 18, 1992.

Mike was known for his strong work ethic and his dedication to providing for his family. He took pride in everything he did and found joy in the open road, whether behind the wheel of a truck or riding his Harley with Stephanie by his side.

Above all, Mike loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an even prouder Papa. His grandchildren brought him a special kind of happiness, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel; his father, Earl; his sisters, Deanne, Linda, and Ida Mae; and his brother, James (Jim).

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; his children, Earl and Kayla; his son-in-law, Travis; and his grandchildren, Aiden, Keagen, and Gracie.

Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through his family, his stories, and the many miles he traveled throughout his life.
