Laurie Ann Brooks, 63, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10th at Royer Funeral Home, Blue Springs; burial in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9th also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations to Global Vision Citadelle Ministries or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in Laurie’s name would be appreciated.
Laurie was born on September 4, 1955 in Kansas City, MO, daughter of William and Charlotte (Bussell) Manly.
Laurie enjoyed music from a young age playing the violin, guitar, and the piano completing a B.A. in Music in 1984 from UMKC Conservatory of Music. She participated in worship at several church, wrote music, taught piano and violin.
Laurie was a nurse for 37 years, working ICU, Cardiac Rehab, and Cath Lab before starting to teach in 2007. She taught nursing at St. Luke’ School of Nursing and MidAmerican Nazarene University. She obtained her A.N. in 1981 from Penn Valley, a M.S. in Nursing and M.B.A in 2006 from University of Phoenix, and a Ph. D in Education with specialization in Higher Education Leadership from Northcentral University in 2017. She was a member Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as well as Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society of Education. Laurie had a passion for medical missions, participating in multiple missions to Haiti.
Family was very important to Laurie she helped take care of her Mom prior to her death and was taking care of her father prior to falling ill. Laurie was a loving, caring, and devoted mother and wife.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte; and son, Peter Brooks; and daughter Crystal Brooks.
Her survivors include her husband, Jeff Brooks of the home; son, Ben Brooks (Courtney) of Kansas City, KS; grandson, Nathan Brooks of Kansas City, KS; father, William Manly of Lee’s Summit, MO; and sister, Konnee Atwell (Don) of North Kansas City, MO.
