Marvin K. Claypool


Marvin Keith Claypool, age 85, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Truman Gardens Nursing Home in Independence, MO.  Services will be held Wednesday, November 16th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence: Visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; funeral service at 12:00 p.m.; burial in New Salem Cemetery, Independence. 

Marvin was born March 21, 1931 in Gilman City, Missouri, the son of Alfred and Myrtle Evelyn (Dawson) Claypool.  He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was member of the American Legion in Blue Springs and a lifetime member of VFW post 1000.  Marvin was a retired welder for Standard Oil Co. and owned a truck accessories business in Blue Springs, MO.  He was an avid gas steam engine enthusiast and a member of the National Agriculture Center and Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs, KS.

Marvin is survived by two sons: David (wife Angie) Claypool of Eagle Rock, MO and Ron Claypool of Woodlands, TX; three daughters: Debbie (husband Steve) DeLorenzi of Roeland Park, KS, Pam (husband Ben) Sandidge of Kansas City, MO, and Michelle (husband Frank) Hervey of Blue Springs, MO; one step-daughter, Karen (husband Tony) Hulsof of Pea Ridge, AR; one brother, LeRoy Claypool of Boise, ID; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; his girlfriend, Ruth Payne of Independence, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlene (Sexton) Claypool in 2002; one grandson; and three brothers.
