Donald Eugene Dennis, 78, of Bates City, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 13th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17th at Bates City Cemetery.
Donald was born February 3, 1938, in Napoleon, Missouri, the son of Oscar G. and Birdie L. (Rudd) Dennis. He married Shirley Houston on June 12, 1959. He was a maintenance worker at Allis-Chalmers. Donald was a Mason and a member of First Baptist Church of Bates City, where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Secretary.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; grandson, David Gower; son-in-law Doug Gower; and brother, James Dennis.
His survivors include two daughters: Carolyn Carlton (Terry) of Independence, MO, and Donna Gower of Oak Grove; six grandchildren: Jason Russell (Holly), Mandy Russell (Dereck), Jaclyn Burkhart (Shaun), Daniel Gower (Heidi), Dennis Gower, and Dillon Gower; seven great-grandchildren: Alexia, Allison, Emily, Gavin, Brice, Ella, and Mason; four brothers: Ray Dennis, Glenn Dennis, Lawrence Dennis, and Wayne Dennis; and one sister, Alice Stever.
