It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Marie (Covey) Durbin announces her passing on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the age of 97.  A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Following will be a graveside service at 12:30 p.m. in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Alice was born on August 13, 1922 and grew up in Orrick, MO.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Durbin of 45 years; former husband, Vernon C. Ricketts, her father, Jess William Covey and mother, Hettie Jane Chaney Bledsoe; brothers, William Covey and Paul Covey; sister, Jessie Maydean Melvin; one step-sister, Alta Johnston; and granddaughter, Tammy Ginnings Wood.  She is survived by her children, who she loved more than anything – Brenda (Mike) Skaggs of Swansboro, NC, Mike Ricketts of Kansas City, MO, Marsha Sanford of Clark, CO and Roberta Durbin of Kansas City, MO.  She also had six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

Alice loved to cook and bake and was her happiest when she had a table full of family and friends eating her delicious meals.  She was mostly a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening and went to Hawaii when she was 85.  Her children would describe her as strong, caring and most of all loving…she never wanted her children to forget that she loved them.
