William Patrick Fischer, 81, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Villages of Jackson Creek. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18th at Royer-Hays Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Pat was born June 22, 1935, in Springfield, Missouri, where he spent his childhood. He received an athletic scholarship to the University of Missouri, where he played football for Don Farot, and earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he moved to Kansas City to work for the Missouri Highway Department, contributing to the construction of Interstate 70. While living there, he met his future wife, Helen Loene Gale. They were married Jan. 11, 1963. He had two children, Allyson Gale and Patrick Michael.

In 1967, he moved to Blue Springs, where he and his brother, C. Adam Fischer founded Fischer Engineering. Fischer Engineering was responsible for the design of most of the early subdivisions in Blue Springs that transformed the city from a small farming community to the large suburb it is now. He also worked for CR Smith, and LG Barcus & Sons doing road and bridge construction. He retired in May 1999.
Pat enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and raising cattle with his family. He liked barbecuing, making chili, and creating one of a kind concoctions in the kitchen with whatever was available. He had a knack for storytelling, frequently relaying fond and memorable stories about his life.
In retirement, he traveled with his wife to many places, including Victoria, BC, Washington State, Oklahoma and Virginia. While he enjoyed these adventures, he was most fond of ‘home’, filling his days with friends, family, football and card games. During this time, his granddaughter, Leila Rose was born. He relished his days as “Grandpa Tiger”.
He is survived by his wife, Helen L Fischer, Blue Springs; two children, Allyson Fischer, Blue Springs, and Mike Fischer (Kim Fischer, daughter-in-law); one granddaughter, Leila R Fischer, Wenatchee, Washington; a brother, C. Adam Fischer (Arnette Fischer, sister-in-law), Lee’s Summit; niece, Robin Douglass, Lee’s Summit; and nephew, Tom Fischer, Raymore.
